Model 3, the generic iPhone of automobiles

Hello all,

Thoughts on the model 3 from a design and marketing standpoint.

To me it looks like the most generic rendition of a sedan possible, something a child would draw if you asked them what a car looked like. The dimensions are a little off too, the whole rear section looks bulbous with the greenhouse being too tall, I get crossover vibes from it. I know it doesn’t sit tall in real life but all the photos I have seen give the appearance of a very tall car. That said I like the front lack-of-grill and the headlights but the rest is totally vanilla and the fastback was really poorly executed. My two cents.

Marketing. This is the iPhone of the car would, over a hundred thousand people put down there 1k deposit sight unseen. Great for Tesla, I’m all for making money.

I was just told the car pictured is not a model 3, I don’t care. The 3 is still ugly.

Here’s a model 3 so nobody gets butthurt by my disregard.

I’m kinda sad that Tesla has sorta become the iPhone. I don’t want to see people lining up to preorder a car. I want them to drive all of them and then make a decision. Preordering anything is kinda dumb in my opinion, but.... I guess that’s why i don’t preorder anything.

Funny, I thought it looked like a Panamera with less ugly.

Model 3: iPhone SE

Model S: iPhone 6s

Model X: iPhone 6s plus

Now it all makes sense.

Exactly. All I can say is at least there getting some millenials to buy cars buy allowing them to preorder like they do everything else. It’s totally a phycological marketing scheme. You are buying something sight unseen and therefore you are forcing onselve to like it.

I love the way the Model 3 looks, but I also love my iPhone.

Well it’s kind of important to know what exactly it is you are shitting on when you shit on it. You know, for credibility and all that. I agree it’s not a revolution in design by any means, but it’s definitely not ugly.

I do however agree that this is the iPhone of vehicles. Hopefully that doesn’t keep Tesla from improving future iterations of it a-la Apple.

Eh I don’t care again. Totally uninspired designs, not revolutionary by any means. All they have is a good electric drive train, one I will never own. I don’t mind shitting on the X whilst thinking it’s a three lol. They look the same.

Sure, it’s not too fancy or doesn’t stand out like some sweet exotic; it’s got to be super areo-efficient. For around $35,000, it’s all about practically. Let’s say you currently spend $30 a week on gas. Over a year, you’ve saved $1,560. Over five years, that becomes $7,800. And ten saves you $15,600, almost half the price of the car. That’s before any tax incentives and using today’s gas prices. If gas prices soar, it just keeps getting better. With all that extra money, you can buy that gas guzzling, oil burning resto project you’ve always wanted.

That's fine - no design is going to get 100% buy-in from everyone.

Never said it was not fine and the car should be sacked. I don’t mind this existing, it makes money and jobs and everything else.
